The one-liner

The NPB Custom is Crews Maniac Sound’s take on a familiar P-style bass, built in Japan in 2017 with a two-piece alder body and maple neck and board. This Capri Orange example keeps its original hard case and papers, alongside a Crews split-coil pickup and spiral-saddle bridge.

The story

Crews Maniac Sound built this NPB Custom in Japan in 2017. It is a four-string, right-handed P-style bass, with serial number 170010. The Capri Orange finish gives the familiar outline a more individual look, while the maple fingerboard keeps the overall presentation simple and direct.

The body is made from two pieces of alder, paired with a maple neck and maple fingerboard with a satin feel. Its passive electronics use a Crews TYPE P-style split-coil pickup with straightforward Volume and Tone controls. A Crews spiral-saddle bridge and Gotoh GB-29 reverse-wind tuners complete the hardware. Its nut width is approximately 43 mm and it weighs 4.1 kg; it is strung with new Pyramid Black Tape Nylon 648/1.

The original Crews hard case and factory documents are included. Together with the serial number and the stated 2017 build year, they give the instrument a useful paper trail without needing to make a larger claim about its history.

Inspection & research notes

Inspection notes record that the neck is straight and stable, the frets show no noticeable wear, and all electronics function as they should. Minor setup adjustments may be needed after shipping and climate adaptation.
