The one-liner

A Headway-built Jazz Bass whose original blue top lacquer still carries its carefully lived-in surface.

The story

This early Japanese Bacchus Vintage Series Jazz Bass was built by Headway. Research places it around 2000–2002, with 2001 the strongest estimate; the model is believed to be a BJB-62. Its Lake Placid Blue Metallic top lacquer is original. The surface was carefully reworked into a vintage-inspired road-worn appearance rather than refinished, and the effect changes noticeably with the light.

The documented specification follows the April 2003 Bacchus catalogue: alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, YUTA VJ-2 single-coil pickups and Gotoh GB-1 reverse tuners. It weighs 4.10 kg, has a 34-inch scale and 38 mm nut width. A new set of Galli flatwounds and a non-original hard case are included with the bass.

Inspection & research notes

The bass is structurally sound, with a smooth satin neck and low action.

Estimated circa 2000–2002, most likely 2001; model believed to be BJB-62. Serial dating is not conclusive.

Signs of life

The original top lacquer was carefully reworked to create the road-worn appearance. The instrument has not been refinished; the finish effect is lighting-dependent.
